One of the great bands ever to have come out of Ireland, Dervish count Saltaire as an audience who always give them as enthusiastic response as any they find when out on the road, and we look forward to giving them another warm welcome this autumn.
Fronted as ever by entrancing singer Cathy Jordan – whose power to charm an audience is surely a match for anybody in the whole of Ireland – Dervish have become one of Ireland’s most enduring line-ups. Over an extraordinary 25 years together they have constantly raised the bar, developing one of the most distinctive, yet expertly balanced sounds anywhere in traditional music and inspiring a whole generation of young celtic musicians in their wake.
Dervish are here in the UK to play the launch night at the new Hammersmith Irish Cultural Centre. The Centre is an iconic home of Irish music, but has been closed for 5 years while it was bulldozed and replaced with a new state of the art building. It is a real seal of approval that out of all the great names of Irish music who have at the Centre played over the years, Dervish are the band they have chosen to relaunch their music programme.
25 years in the making, a Dervish show promises to be a rousing, uplifting night, sure to drive away day to day cares and raise the spirits in the way that only great music can.
